October 2007 – Shelburne, Massachusetts
In October 2007, this 85 lb. male wolf was shot and killed after it had allegedly killed several sheep in the area. A biologist with the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife reportedly saw the footprints of the animal while it was still alive, believed them to be tracks of a dog, and then gave an individual permission to shoot the animal if it returned. It was killed some eighty miles from the Day, New York wolf. The shooter was not prosecuted.
