This young 67 lb. female wolf visited a remote campsite in the north Maine Woods in late August 1993.  These are some of the only known photos of a living wild wolf in the northeast United States. 

Just two days after the above photos were taken, she was killed by a bear hunter from Pennsylvania.  Both he and his guide were successfully prosecuted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for the killing of a gray wolf.
