In the Fall of 2013, a 78 pound canid was killed in North Hero, Vermont by Ray Beavolin. North Hero is made up of several islands in Lake Champlain close to the borders of New York and Quebec. Only the canid’s mitochondrial DNA was analyzed which was inadequate for determining the animal’s identity. At 78 pounds, it is far above the weight range for Eastern coyotes and well within the weight range for both gray and Eastern/Algonquin wolves. No photo is available.
