L.D. 640 bill would award free antlerless deer permits

Rep. Paul T. Davis-R (Sangerville) is sponsoring L.D. 640, “An Act to Encourage Coyote Management”.  The bill would award a free antlerless deer permit to anyone who kills ten coyotes in one year.  The clear message sent by Rep. Davis is that he doesn’t want coyotes to kill deer (including does) that humans should be killing.  The irony of this misguided bill may well be less deer and more coyotes in the Maine woods.  If you want to contact Rep. Coyote Snaring Bill Introduced

A wolf-like canid purported to be a coyote that died after it struggled to try to free itself from a snare.

Sen. Troy Jackson-D (District 35 Northern Aroostook County) has introduced L.D. 101 “An Act to Institute a Snaring Program for Coyotes”.    This anti-wildlife and anti-Maine bill is ill-conceived and without any scientific basis.  Its intent is merely to pander to those who take pleasure in killing.
